More All-Ages Rocknroll at Skrappy’s!
by zach on May.10, 2010, under R5 News
Hey buddy,
I’ve got the logs; you’re the only one that reads the blog. Thanks! There’s not a lot going on, but dammit you read every day anyway. To show our appreciation, we’ve scheduled a serious concert at Skrappy’s, a wonderful all-ages venue downtown with a real stage and lights and sound and everything! We wanted to make sure it was all ages since your IP doesn’t tell us if you’re 21 or not, and we’ve been erring on the side of COME ONE COME ALL for a while now. This rock event is gonna happen on MAY 21 with OH band Annabel and fellow Tucsonans La Cerca and Dr. Dinosaur.
So, thanks for reading, and please try not to start boycotting us local bands in the meantime. We like it here (most of the time) and you must, too. We’re in the same boat, adrift at sea away from the rest of the world, so who’s gonna support us if we don’t support ourselves? See you May 21st!

Hangart tomorrow!
by zach on Apr.09, 2010, under R5 News
We’ll be playing an all ages Hangart show tomorrow! It starts withs some smoove acoustc jams with our good friend Renato’s band Red Paint’s EP release along with Great Job and Evy llyn. Then, r5 will fill a hat with songs old and new, covers and originals, to be played for long enough to get seriously down.
This is in preperation for another exciting all ages Hangart show on May 5 with INTERNATIONAL ESPIONAGE, famous ninja spy rock band, and Boogie Nazis, Tucson’s own surf rockin’ tremolo pickin’ band of awesome.
Also, Skrappys (more all ages!) on May 21. For the Runaway Underleveled Battalion, this is quite the month. Make the most of it an come see us, dammit! See you soon!

A busy new year for R5
by zach on Mar.03, 2010, under R5 News
This blog doesn’t get updated as often as the facebook or the twitter (ICONS ON RIGHT) but that doesn’t mean we don’t love you, therunaway5.com. You provide us with a google hit, email domain, and a blog! So let’s blog, shall we?
We’re recording! Actually, we’re done recording…we’re mixing! Twelve tracks (or so), comin’ atcha live. Mostly live, anyway. They’re going to be nice and live-sounding, at the very least. We figured it would be a positive direction for us since our live show has changed so much (this means gameboys!). We played a couple of shows in the meantime, including one with the incredible POLYSICS, but we have been pretty focused. The mixing stage is a little less demanding both on us and on the location of our equipment, so expect more live shows soon. Keep an especially close eye on the Red Room’s schedule in extremely early April.
Other than that, I’ve been hard at work in Andonuts Labs to produce some sweet new handmade merch…more info soon! Thanks for sticking with us and we’ll have a whole new kabang quite shortly indeed!

1 dance party + 1 all-ages rockfest = 2 upcoming shows!
by zach on Nov.03, 2009, under R5 News
That thing on the left just keeps spinning and I have songs to write, so…
November 10th it’s R5 with Sugar and Gold (seen here shaking it for serious) and Mean Beans at Club Congress! AWESOME dance party music will force you to dance even if you have two left feet or perhaps no feet at all (please let us know and we’ll put you on the list or something).
Not twenty one? Never fear, November 14th at Dry River you can catch R5 with the recently Steve Albini-produced THE PROVOCATIVE WHITES along with a couple other powerpop bands, Sugar High and Adam Marsland, from Phx and LA respectively.
Hope to see you at one/both! Here’s a provocative flyer:

R5 Live on KXCI tonight!
by zach on Jun.01, 2009, under R5 News
Foreward: Having just sent out our inaugural R5 SuperFanlist Email in HTML format, I’d like to reiterate most of that info here in case people have problems. If you’re one of them, comment this post or email me at zach@therunaway5.com. Thanks!
Now, to business! The Runaway Five will be LIVE on KXCI 91.3 FM tonight at 9pm! We’re going to be the second hour of the community radio show “Locals Only”, playing rock songs, ukulele songs, gameboy songs, and chatting with the hosts. We’ve never been live on the radio before, so we’re pretty excited.
If you’re in the Tucson area, tune in to 91.3 FM at eightish to catch some local music before we play at nine. If you’re not in the five-two-oh (or perhaps, like me, do not own a radio), listen live online at:
If you can’t listen live, don’t sweat it. We’ll be posting the whole thing on Facebook within the next couple days.
Also, don’t forget our upcoming shows: June 12 at Plush with the mysterious Mr. Gnome and June 20 (zach and sarah’s birthday show!) at the Hut with Ghostcow.
Stay cool, team. We’ll chat soon.

Also, it’s a time of shameless self-promotion for all Tucson bands and probably disappointment for the ones that didn’t go to high school here: that’s right, it’s the Tammies! Vote for us, or don’t, but please express your opinion about the kinds of local music you like to hear! Check it out:
Our band is, for the record: Zach Wolfenbarger, Bobby Shields, Ian Williams, Sarah Allen. Come address us formally! Talk to you soon.

by zach on Apr.19, 2009, under R5 News
Hi all!
We had a great time last night at Club Crawl. It’s alway an adventure, but it was especially crazy for us first time players. Thanks especially to Phil from Mozart’s Sister for helping me out of a scrape. Here’s some news: Raygunomics is now available on iTunes! Check out this link:
…or hit the itunes logo in the Elsewhere box on the right. And don’t forget to check the Upcoming Shows box while you’re over there.

CD Release wind-down and debriefing
by zach on Apr.06, 2009, under R5 News
…and holy flaming snaketeeth it was rad! Ya’ll came out en masse and made us feel totally awesome by rocking out to us (and the always ferocious Verdant and The Ottersey), cheering your heads off, and buying our SWEET ASS NEW MERCH! Amazing! We got a great response to the new stuff, too, which just makes us wanna write more. I can feel it; this is the beginning of a positive feedback rock-loop that will become asymptotically more potent as we move forward into the FUTURE.
To celebrate this auspicious occasion, new and wonderful things are going to begin to happen. First off, our EPs and T-SHIRTs will be available here on our website for only a few bux and an email. We take paypal and will even ship right to ya if you can’t be bothered to leave the house but still want to sport a cool robot shirt for your cats. Shirts are $10 and Raygunomics is $5 and pics will be up soon.
If it’s tunes you’re after (an rightly so!), there’s always good old music.therunaway5.com, which always has our latest and greatest for listen and download. If you ain’t picky, feel free to download our totally Creative Commons licensed trax for free in heartbreaking 128k. For the more discerning aural palette, $4 gets you the disc in whatever format you think you can handle: v0, v2, FLAC, Apple Lossless, so on/so forth. This ca$h also goes straight to us (minus paypal fees), so don’t be shy. For those of you in the pre-Paypal Cold War era, we’ll be on iTunes just as soon as Steve Jobs can get to it. We imagine he will take his time.
What else? Pretty soon ‘ukesnbots’, our famous gameboy/ukulele bonus disc, will be available on music.therunaway5.com as well. We’re taking our time putting it up so that you folks that picked up a copy at the release can feel extra special for just a little while longer. That’ll also be downloadable for free in ear-fatiguing 128k, but you’ll probably wanna spend the $3 for the good stuff, because you’re a connoisseur of digital media.
Beyond our recent shamelessly capitalistic tendencies, we also have some shows coming up! Check out the sidebar for the full list (over —–> there). Highlights include this Sunday with our dear friends from Concord, CA Go Kart Mozart, and Club Crawl on the 18th where we’re playing the Mountain stage at 9:00pm!
This is getting long and cumbersome so I will wrap up by saying THANK YOU for supporting us this weekend and the last couple years or so, buy our stuff, and SIGN UP FOR THE MAILING LIST!!! We promise to keep the cialis emails to a minimum but we might make an exception if we see a particularly good deal. Thanks again and we’ll be in touch.
